Rainy/Cold Day Fun

What do you do when it's too yucky of a day to go outside/play/run errands? You bake!

I got some Valentine's brownies for Addyson and I to make on Sunday, but figured we'd have more fun making them today. The weather is too bad to do much of anything else. I baked the brownies, and she iced and decorated them. When Laney woke up from her nap they both got to enjoy the fruits of Addyson's labor.

Yes, the little one eats with her shirt off most of the time, she's probably one of the messiest little eaters I know!

Missionaries

We had the sweet missionaries from church over for dinner the other night. Ryan braved the monsoon storm to go and pick them up. It's always a treat to have them over; they bring a really special spirit with them, they play with the girls, we usually eat Carino's, and they eat a TON so we have no leftovers. Nice!
As the evening was coming to a close, they left a great message for our family. They challenged us to read our scriptures more. Even if we read them once a day, we should step it up to twice a day. There really are true blessings in reading the scriptures on a daily basis. I'm really making an effort to read a few chapters at night before bed. So much easier than in the morning...

What a blessing it was for these guys to come over and spend some time with us!

Books

I've never been much of a reader, well, I'm an avid magazine reader, just not a BOOK reader. But, I have discovered that I LOVE to read books! It is such a great way to escape at the end of a long day. Sometimes if I have the time, I'll read a chapter or two during Laney's nap time.

I laugh at how I cringed in high school when an English teacher would assign a new book for us to read, ugh. I hated every second. Now I look forward to the times when I can curl up with Miss Hammer Johnson the cat, a warm blanket, and read. Sometimes at night I think maybe Ryan thinks I'm ignoring him because I'm so into my reading, ha ha

I started posting what book I'm reading on the side of my blog. I started True Colors by Kristin Hannah last week, and it's one of the best I've read so far. Give it a try!

First Play Date

Laney Lou got invited to her very first play date and it was this morning. She was excited! I packed her a lunch and we went on our way to meet some friends from church. It's a beautiful day today, 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky, perfect! Great day to be outside...
It seemed like most of the mom's there had babies under 2 months of age, so Lane was totally taken by all these babies. She'd go over and peek inside a baby carrier and say, "Mama, baby sleeeeeeping". I guess I never realized that she hasn't been around many small babies before.

We stayed for about an hour, and about that time she started rubbing her eyes saying she was tired. We had a great time, thanks for the invite Melissa!

Friends

I was thinking the other day about how I have some pretty great friends. And a quick shout out to Facebook, the place that has brought me back to some friends I had years ago that I've gotten to re-connect with!
A really dear friend to me, Sharla, and her youngest, Caden, came out to see Laney and me yesterday. Sharla and I met at work in 2000. We pretty much got married around the same time, then started having kids around the same time. She lives on one side of Houston and I live on the other. Being so busy and raising kids unfortunately made it difficult to really keep close. I love her dearly and share some pretty great memories with her!

We had such a great time catching up, and Laney and Caden played well together. We're hoping one day maybe they'll date then get married? We can dream, right?? Haha And that Caden has some cool hair!

Thanks for your friendship Sharla, it means the world to me!

Fun with a Toddler

And yes, that is permanent marker, in case you were wondering. Gotta love the Wii paddles as bracelets, too. *sigh*

I love me some Lane, even on days like this!

Snuggie Mania

Really, what is it with these reversible robe type blankets that has gotten everyone so excited? Not sure, but count our oldest as one of the excited ones. She saw that there was a kid sized Snuggie and then it was all over with. She had to have one of her own!
Before the first cold snap I picked her up one at the store. Each night before bed she gets comfy on the couch under her Snuggie and gets all sleepy and ready for some sleep. She loves the thing...And look who else loves it, a sweet Booka!
