Medina County Fair

Today Ryan, the girls and I went to the Medina County Fair.  It's normally the last week of July each year, last year we missed it because we were just moving into our house.  As Medina citizens we couldn't let this week go by without checking it out.

It was the perfect day for a fair, upper 60's and cloudy.  We saw horses, goats, ducks, sheep, cows, and the main reason we went to the fair; the pigs.  This past year Addyson had a friend in her class named Griffin and they became fast friends.  Griffin's family raises pigs and in February one of the pigs had a litter and one of the baby girl pigs got named Addyson.  Not many people get a pig named after them?!  I told Addyson she should feel honored, haha. Addyson the pig was being shown at the fair today and she won 5th place out of 15 pigs shown in her class.  Not bad!  We went to the pig pens to visit Addyson, Griffin and Griffin's mom.  We couldn't go to the fair without eating some fair food so cotton candy and fried Swiss cheese were had.  So good, I mean fried Swiss cheese??  Yep, pretty tasty stuff.  It was a great day, we will definitely need to make the fair an annual tradition in our family.

10 Years

Yesterday Ryan and I celebrated 10 years of wedded bliss.  Well, maybe not completely blissful for every single minute of those 10 years, but I'd say we've had a good ride so far.
Ryan has been a work-a-holic for the past two weeks and yesterday he started his vacation from work for about 10 days, a MUCH needed one for him(and me!) I'd say.  He started things off by surprising me with a beautiful pair of diamond earrings.  I was surprised because he got me a pair six years ago for christmas, and before new years one of them turned up missing.  Not good.  I didn't think I'd get another pair so I was pretty darn  thrilled to get these.  Next up we summoned our favorite babysitter, Alli, to come sit with the girls and we headed out to see some sights in downtown Cleveland.  We chose Blue Point Seafood for dinner, then headed back out to the suburbs for some Z's ice cream for dessert.  It was a great evening filled with laughter, lots of reminiscing(we figured out that on our 20th anniversary Addyson will have just graduated from high school.  Oh boy), full tummies, and happiness.  Looking forward to what the next decade has in store for us!

One Cool Cat

The girls had too much time on their hands today, and this was the result.  Best.  Cat.  Ever.

Lemon Blueberry Bread

This morning I woke up ready to tackle my house, laundry, dishes, toy clutter and a new recipe I wanted to try.  I think the sun shining had something to do with my motivation as its been cloudy most of the week.  Love mornings like that!  Anyway, I tried my hand at some lemon blueberry bread, and I chose that to make because Ryan is traveling this week and he wouldn't care much to eat this particular sweet.  He's an ice cream, cookie dough, brownie type of guy, not a bread-fruit fan.  I think it turned out pretty good!  Lane helped me, as she usually does in the kitchen, and we had fun.  She grated some lemon zest and I let her measure out the 1/2 c of milk.

This afternoon we've been invited to go play at Joan and Anna's house, our neighbors, so I think Joan probably needs to try my bread.  I think she'll like it.
Happy Tuesday-

Such a Clown

Laney is one funny kid.  I seriously will miss having her around after school starts.  She can make me laugh like no one else.  She has the best one liners ever, sometimes I'm surprised she's only 5!  Last night she, her dad and I were playing Go Fish before bed and it was Ryan's turn to go.  She looks at him and says, "It's your Go Fish, brother".  Of course these are things you have to hear in person to appreciate.  She was in the spa earlier and it was rainy, and the clouds turned to sun so I told her it was either time to get out or put sunscreen on.  She said, "Well you better grab that sunscreen, Mama Johnson".

Addyson is my more serious, thinker of a kid, lane on the other hand is the free spirited little comedienne.  Who knew kids could be so different....

Some things never change

I've always been a bit leery of the dark and weird spaces that have corners I can't see around.  I was that way as a kid and I guess maybe I still am today.  So this brings me to the basement.  Ours is not finished out yet and whenever I go down there, which is really never, I coax a child or the dog to go with me.  Tonight was spaghetti night and there was no tomato sauce in the pantry and immediately I shudder.  I knew I needed to get a jar from the food storage in yes, the basement.  I went down there all by my lonesome(Ryan is working, girls were on the driveway riding bikes and the dog was too busy napping to go with me), retrieved what I needed, and ran back upstairs like a scared kid.  So sad.  But I'm living to tell about it so maybe that basement isn't so bad.  Actually, yes it is.

Hot, Hot, Hot

So it appears that the girls and I chose the hottest day so far this summer in NE Ohio to head to the lake with some friends.  We had a great time, but the sun definitely left its mark on our skin.  We were there ALL day, had so much fun, but we're pretty wiped out.  Early bedtimes for all this evening!

Akron Zoo and Luigi's

We made plans to hang with our friends Dasha, Izzy and Markie.  Izzy is Lane's friend from preschool and I love her mom, Dasha!  We met at Luigi's pizza in Akron, apparently this place is an Akron institution, and rightfully so.  The pizza and salad were yum-o.  After full tummies we headed over to the Akron Zoo.  We had never been there and I have to say, it's one of the nicer zoos I've been to, and we definitely know our zoos.  Just after we left the bat habitat the sky fell out and it started pouring.  We let the kiddos play in it, and that may have been the highlight of the day.  Good times this summer, I'll be sad to say goodbye to it when school starts in a month.

I'm a Big Kid Now

It was the equivalent to Christmas morning this morning at our house.  Lane lost her first tooth yesterday.  Addyson pulled it for her, pretty surprised she let that happen.  The tooth fairy paid her a visit during the night.  She was left some money and a pack of gum.  Score.

Date Night

Who doesn't love date night?  I for one love a good date night with my Ryan.  Most of the time we go places that our girls normally want no part of, and last night was no exception.  We went to Wasabi for some yummy hibachi style food.  After that we ended things at Home Depot.  Good times for sure.

Perfection

A sunny day, watching Lane ride her bike, my Kindle and a Coke Zero.

Visitors, Round 2

We had back to back visitors, and by that I mean that one set left at 7 am on the 5th and the next set rolled in the same day at 5 pm.  It was kind of crazy shifting gears between the two, but we loved getting the chance to see the Jordan Fackrell's and the Bobby Lahiere's.

We packed in lots of fun with the Lahiere family while they were here.  We saw a movie, went to Niagra Falls, celebrated Brandy's birthday, and a visit to Cedar Point.  Ok not all of us got to go to Cedar Point, but those that did(Bobby, Bailey and Lorelei) had a blast.  It was so nice getting to catch up with my sister, Brandy.  We keep in touch daily through texts and phone chats, but it's not the same as hanging out in person.  We painted our nails, talked after kids went to bed, did grocery store trips and went shopping.  It's the little things!

Looking forward to round three of visitors, mom and dad, in about two weeks!
Miss you already, Lahiere family
